Effective Monday 14th, July 2014, all CONSULAR PAYMENTS must be made by MONEY ORDER or CASHIERS CHECK only made payable to the Embassy of Sierra Leone. Transactions will include and not limited to payments for Visas both normal and expedited, payments for Emergency Travelling Certificates, Authentication of Documents etc.

Processing time: Between three to five business days

Consular hours: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (Mondays thru Fridays)

Lunch hour: 1 pm to 2 pm

Applicants who wish to receive their Visas the same day must pay an expedited fee of US$ 50.00 and should submit their application latest 12 pm to be collected between the hours of 3 pm to 3:30 pm

Those who wish not to expedite their visa processing would have to wait three business days for the process to complete.
Those wishing to travel to Sierra Leone must have and submit the following:

  1.  Completed visa application form
  2.  One recent passport size photograph (less than six months old.)
  3.  A passport valid at least one year before the date of expiration. Passport must contain sufficient blank visa pages.
  4.  A copy of the applicant's travel itinerary or round trip ticket should be produced. In some instances, the consular office will invite applicants for interview.
  • For minors/Children (Between Ages 0 - 16 years):

  1. Both parents must sign the form and get it notarized
  2. A copy of the child’s birth certificate must be attached 
  3. Copies of both parents government issued identification cards must be attached.
  • Note: All applicants must have a valid and up-to-date international certificate of vaccination (yellow fever). If an applicant is mailing his/her passport, a prepaid self-addressed next-day delivery envelope should also be enclosed.

Note: Only Prepaid United States Postal express mail or priority express next day delivery is accepted and for applicants outside of the United States use "Prepaid UPS Return Envelope" only

Consular fees are charged on reciprocal basis and are paid in u.s. Dollars

  • For ECOWAS citizens carrying ECOWAS passports, there is no need for a Visa to travel to Sierra Leone.
  • All fees must be made payable to the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone either in MONEY ORDER or CASHIERS CHEQUES. Personal cheques and cash are not accepted.

Business visa applicants

  • A profile of the company the applicant represents with a letter of invitation from a registered company/organization in Sierra Leone is required.
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the period applicant wishes to stay in Sierra Leone (e.g. Copy of bank statement)
  • There is no limit to the amount of money carried into the country but the amount should be declared at the port of entry.
